Study Reveals This Food Outperforms Ibuprofen

If you're one of the millions of peopel taking NSAIDS to alleviate your arthritic pain, please read this email to learn about an alternative and more effective, evidence-based strategy that is most likely already hiding in your kitchen.

Although Ibuprofen and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) are effective for reducing pain and inflammation in the short term, they can also impede the healing process and cause a number of unfortunate side effects. For instance, NSAIDs have been found to reduce blood flow to cartilage thereby reducing the flow of nutrients and healing complexes. Ibuprofen have also been linked to anemia, DNA damage, hearing loss, cardiovascular risk, hypertension, influenza mortality, and miscarriage. Finally, ibuprofen use is also thought to play a role in the development of leaky gut which can lead to immune dysregulation. For these reasons, natural alternatives should always be utilized first, especially when they are found to be even more effective.

Fortunately, According to a recent trial entitled Efficacy and safety of curcuma domestica extracts in patients with knee osteoarthritis, we now know that turmeric (curcumin), a spice found in your kitchen can outperform ibuprofen for the treatment of osteoarthritic knee pain.

It sounds too good to be true, right? Fortunately, it’s not.

In this study they tested the effects of either 2,000 mg of turmeric (4 divided doses) or 800 mg (2 divided doses) of ibuprofen daily. Turmeric and ibuprofen both resulted in significant benefits, however, the turmeric was found to be more effective for reducing pain while going up and down stairs and was associated with fewer adverse events. Participants who used turmeric also reported that they were more satisfied with the treatment overall.

If you’re on the fence about replacing your ibuprofen for turmeric, please note that turmeric’s benefits do not stop at alleviating osteoarthritic pain. In fact, according to Sayer Ji, founder of GreenMedInfo, turmeric’s most benefitcial curcuminoid, curcumin, is a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compound that has over 600 benefits for the treatment of over 500 conditions. It has even been shown to be effective as a replacement for several other pharmaceuticals including cholesterol medication (Lipitor), corticosteroids, antidepressants (Prozac, fluoxetine, Imipramine), aspirin, chemotherapy drugs (Oxaliplatin) and the diabetes drug, Metformin. Most importantly, turmeric has also been used in Ayurvedic Medicine safely and effectively for over 6,000 years.

In other words, turmeric should be a new staple in your diet pronto! If not therapeutically, then at least preventatively.

Please not that if you’re trying to treat a condition like osteoarthritis please be sure that you use a dose similar to the one used in the trial (2,000 mg). However, if you simply want to use turmeric preventatively to flood your body with antioxidants and reduce inflammation, then I recommend using it in whole food form. Here are 4 ways to use turmeric root and start reducing inflammation today.
