What Drinking a Gallon of Water Per Day Can Do For Your Health
I know you’ve heard this a million times - “Be sure to drink at least 8 glasses of water per day!” It’s a simple recommendation that all doctors, nutritionists and fitness experts can agree on. Yet, for many of us, it’s the one thing that we don’t actually implement. I mean, it seems so simple. How important can it be, right?
Extremely important, actually. And here's why...
Every major body system needs water. It regulates body temperature, flushes toxins, delivers nutrients, lubricates joints, prevents constipation, and moistens the skin. Several studies have shown that drinking more water is actually an effective weight loss strategy. One study conducted in 2008 revealed that simply drinking more water promoted weight loss in overweight women independent of diet and physical activity.
The truth of that matter is, this is something you probably have heard repeatedly. This is exactly why I wanted to share a recent article I read on The Daily Hiit entitled, “This Woman Drinks a Gallon of Water Daily for 30 Days. See What Happens!” It details the journey of a 42 year old UK resident and mother of two named Sara Smith. After visiting a neurologist and a nutritionist for chronic headaches and digestive issues, she was instructed to drink more water. That is exactly what she did! Smith went from drinking 3 glasses of water per day to 3 gallons, and the results were pretty shocking.
Below I quoted a few of my favorite highlights. To view her photos and shocking transformation, please visit the full article here.
This may be exactly what might motivate you to finally making your water intake a priority!
Week 1…
“….her headaches were already gone, and her previous joint stiffness first thing in the morning was vastly improved. Water is vital for lubricating the joints.”
Week 2…
“Sarah states, ‘My complexion is improving and my skin tone is more even. I still have wrinkles under my eyes, but they look less crepey and shadowy than before.’ “
and...
“Sarah also noticed that her tummy was flatter than she expected it to be. She figured she would have been super bloated from drinking all of the water! She also had another migraine free week!”
Week 3...
“The dark rings and wrinkles under my eyes have virtually disappeared, and my skin looks plumper and more nourished.”
and…
“I’m eating less, because drinking water with meals makes me feel fuller quicker. I used to snack, but I was reaching for food when I was actually thirsty.”
After 4 weeks…
“My skin is almost as dewy as it was when I was a child. The transformation is nothing short of remarkable.”
and finally...
“I feel fitter, leaner and healthier, and my husband and friends tell me I look ten years younger.”
Though her words say it all, why don’t you take a moment to look at the photos, because they are truly incredible. You can find them here.
My take on this:
Moral of the story: If you do nothing else today, simply drink more water! You’ll be doing wonders for your health. After 30 days of solid dedication, you’ll look younger, lose weight, improve detox, enhance your glow and feel better than ever, just like Sarah Smith.
A good rule of thumb is to drink half your bodyweight in ounces per day. For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, drink 75 ounces of water daily. It’s also IMPERATIVE that you find a high quality source of water. Unfiltered water can contain fluoride, chlorine, traces of antibiotics and other “nasties” that could actually have negative effects on your health. Invest in a high quality water filter for your faucet (and showerhead!) or find a local spring at http://www.findaspring.com. My husband and I actually save money by opting for spring water. Finally, be sure that you purchase a glass water bottle to carry with you every day. The glass will help you avoid plastic bottles which can leach dangerous chemicals into your water. By carrying it with you, it will act as a constant reminder to keep drinking!
